New crew: Inglatu

Inglatu is the newest character in the game, added in packs on Tuesday, May 1. Don't remember him? Don't worry, you aren't alone.

Inglatu makes his only appearance in "Rules of Acquisition" (DS9; S02, E07). He was a member of the Dosi, either a relatively minor trading partner or member of the Dominion, and served as a minor antagonist for Quark and Pel as they carried out a negotiation on behalf of Grand Nagus Zek.

From a game perspective, let's see what he's good at.

Full stats, via the announcement in the forums:

- Primary: Diplomacy. Base 1241 (851 at 1*); Roll 217-439

- Secondary: Security. Base 742 (294 at 1*); Roll 221-512

- Tertiary: nil

- Traits: Dosi, Merchant, Brutal, Communicator

Shuttles: The selling feature is that he has one of the best Diplomacy bases in the game. Fully fused and equipped, his diplomacy base of 1241 ranks 7th in the game, 37 points back of current leader Zhin'tara Odo. He also has a strong secondary, with an FF/FE security base of 742.

That has some value, but not much. Many recent event characters, including Harcourt Fenton Mudd, Martian Quark and Loque'eque Sato have comparable stats, so he's not doing anything other easier to acquire characters don't.

Gauntlet: Although not totally useless here, Inglatu comes close. His security roll isn't terrible, but it's comparable to he 4* Lieutenant Valeris, but without the redeeming quality of two other high rolls. Seven different 4* characters come with a higher security roll and a huge number of 5* crew beat him, too. Add in that he's a two-stat character and that his stats are super common and he's not worth much here, unless his traits show up. Three of the four are common traits, but given that he only has four the odds aren't great.

Voyages: Two-trait character, so nope.

Anything else? He's not main cast, he's not part of a species likely to show up in a mega event, and he's not likely to be so popular that DB makes him an event 5* down the road.

Outside of the game, it's unlikely too many players are going to be banging down DB's door on sentiment. "Rules of Acquisition" was the first episode to mention the Dominion, but at that point it was just a vague concept and neither the Dosi nor Inglatu figured in at all in the remainder of the series. The episode garnered a respectable 7.4 by IMDb's ratings, but it's strength was in the Quark/Pel dynamic, with the Dosi an unmemorable component and one the DS9 writers never revisited.

Recommendation: Don't buy. This is exactly the kind of 1/5* crew that ends up taking up a crew slot but never being used. Unless you're a completionist, there's no reason to pay for Inglatu.

"Though the Dosi merchant was willing to sell tulaberry wine to the Ferengi, Inglatu could not meet their voluminous order. Instead, he referred the buyers to a Dominion supplier".
